And a Terminator movie? Involving Mexico? Unlike both T1 and T2, which feature Mexico? Get out of here.Ī lot of folks will make a song and dance as if it because it did something uniquely blasphemous by killing off John, but it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny either.

Plus the usual suspects lost their fucking minds about there being more than 1 (one) woman on the first poster, and that filtered through a lot. I think its reception would have been a whole world different if there had been nothing in the interim, and if everyone hadn't (for some reason?) gone to see the absolute terrible Genisys. Mostly people were ready not to like it after three junk sequels in a row, I think. i haven't seen it for a while and it was pretty forgettable. also, part of the theme of T2 was that robots are not humans and can never be.

at the beginning of this movie they kill him off and they replace him with another future leader. the movies were previously about the machines trying to stop john conner from leading the resistance. T3, Salvation, and Genesis were nowhere near as good as the first 2, but they at least had some new ideas. a robot goes back in time to kill someone that is significant in the future, another person or robot goes back in time to stop them. it was basically just a rehash of other (better) terminator movies without adding much new.

neither the android girl or the "new John Conner" girl were believable, relatable, or likable. Linda Hamilton's Sara Conner and the Arnold's T800 in the first 2 movies are 2 of the best movie characters of all time. Splintering into numerous different timelines or potential timelines makes all of them feel somewhat low stakes, and it also feels like the films are constantly setting things up for an anticipated sequel without being intriguing enough to make us want that sequel. The first two films lay down a clear binary choice between two future: war against the machines vs. On a related note, I think some fans don’t love the move in the recent films to ‘branch off’ into a new future - as in Genisys or Dark Fate. He’s been hyped up as the central hero figure in the franchise - the saviour of humanity - and even though we’ve never actually had (IMO) a definitive or brilliant depiction of him as an adult, people feel very strongly about him and so didn’t want to see him gone. I think that a lot of people disliked the decision to kill John Connor. It was also great to see Linda Hamilton back too. Like you, I thought that the action scenes were surprisingly good - mostly striking the balance between tension and large scale. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Kill him off at the end if need be when it serves a purpose.

They could've kept John alive the same they did with Sarah. It just undermines everything that happened in T2. Plus people generally were not happy with the decision to kill of John in the first 5 minutes. Many of the movie's ideas were already done in previous movies, Arnold getting old (genisys), human terminators (salavation), the Rev-9 is basically the same as the TX from T3 with elements of the T-1000 blended in. It's just the same time travel duck and run story that we have seen countless times. Skynet is now legion, the T-800 is now the Rev-9, the resistance sends back a protector, Dani is John.

Plus the movie acted like it was doing something new when it was just doing the EXACT same thing again with a different coat of paint. Arnold certainly doesn't have the star power he once did. People simply didn't care because they were probably bored with the franchise, specially after so many mediocre entries. I think the movie not doing well was more to do with people not going to see it in the first place.
